It's OFFICIAL - Capel Gets Infinity Broadband

BT issued a press release on 2nd Feb 2011 announcing all Top 10 Race to Infinity exchanges as winners! Capel was 8th with a fantastic 77% vote and is therefore set to get Infinity Broadband by early 2012.

The work will be carried out by BT Openreach and funded by BT Retail. The exact nature of the solution will be known in a few months when BT Openreach has completed its detailed engineering survey and design. However the campaign team understands from BT that the intention is to bring Infinity Broadband to the vast majority of properties in the exchange area. The campaign team will keep you updated by posting news in this BLOG.

If you have any QUESTIONS please post a comment below (click on "comments") and the campaign team will endeavour to provide ANSWERS.

  1. I live in the part of Beare Green that is on the Holmwood station side of the A24. I have seen a litle bit of Openreach activity but nothing much. Does anyone know if this part of BG will have a fast broadband connection? No cabinets have been installed as far as I am aware and laying fibre optic back to BG from Capel would I think not be cost effective.

2nd July 2012 and still no date for activation from BT at Capel. There seems to be far more trenching activity going on in Capel by the electricity people laying their new trunk cable from the electricity substation north of Capel to the Capel Clockhouse brickworks site than by BT.

All I can say is that Capel is not alone since BT originally indicated my mother's exchange at Farnham Common would get superfast broadband on 31st December 2011, then it was 30th June 2012, followed by 31st March 2012, then 30th June 2012 again and now its 30th September 2012. Of course at least for her exchange (part of the standard BT Openreach roll out) BT is actually quoting a target date. At Capel BT just hides and continues to refuse to provide any target date at all that they can then fall behind on.............

It really does seem as though BT have bitten off far more than they can chew in terms of keeping on schedule with the rollout of Superfast Broadband.

  3. So as we now approach the end of 2012 there is still no sign of the availability of Superfast fibre optic Broadband at Grenehurst Park where I live or, so far as I am aware, anywhere else in Capel. The BT Broadband Checker also stubbornly continues to refuse to acknowledge the possibility that there is any plan at all to ever provide BT Infinity on my phone number or any other phone numbers I am aware of in the Capel area. Of course perhaps this is preferable to the situation at my relative's house on the Farnham Common exchange where BT originally quoted a BT Infinity Live date of 31st Decemeber 2011 and has now pushed it back on the last day of each quarter this year to the end of the next quarterly period (so it currently stands at 31 Dec 2012 but this almost certainly is not worth the paper it is printed on). In short BT does not yet seem to have learnt that in business it is better to Under Promise and Over Deliver.

I strongly suspect that internal budgetary cuts at BT in the amount of money available to invest in upgrading their cable network have led to this unhappy situation given that there is no longer any evidence at all of BT Openreach engineers continuing to work on the ground in the Capel exchange area.
